Author Biographies

Maria Helena Henriques, Universidade de Coimbra, FCTUC

Maria Helena Henriques was born in Lisbon in 1960. She has a bachelor’s degree in geology and a doctorate and aggregate professor in palaeontology, along with a bachelor’s in journalism from the University of Coimbra, where she has taught palaeontology and stratigraphy since 1983 at the Earth Sciences Department at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology. A specialist in Jurassic fossil invertebrates, she is the author or co-author of more than eighty book chapters and scientific articles published nationally and internationally. Her journalistic work comprises more than sixty articles published in daily newspapers and magazines, particularly on topics related to the promotion of the geosciences, principally those related to Portuguese geological heritage.

Maria José Moreno

Maria José de Sá Miranda Moreno was born in Macedo de Cavaleiros in 1957. An associate professor in pharmaceutical chemistry and phytochemistry at the University of Coimbra Faculty of Pharmacy, she holds a degree in pharmacy and a doctorate in pharmaceutical chemistry from the University of Coimbra. She is the author and co-author of more than fifty book chapters and of numerous scientific and pedagogical articles focused on scientific dissemination in the fields of organic chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, sonochemistry, homogenous catalyses, science education, and education for sustainable development.

A. M. Galopim de Carvalho, Universidade de Lisboa

Born in Évora in 1931, Galopim de Carvalho is a professor emeritus at the University of Lisbon, having been part of the Department of Geology of the Faculty of Sciences since 1961. He is the author of twenty-one books, ranging from scientific, pedagogical, and academic topics to fiction and memoires. He has written more than two hundred papers in scientific journals. As an active citizen and defender of geology and geological heritage, he has published more than one hundred and fifty opinion pieces. Between 1993 and 2003, he was director of the National Museum of Natural History, during which time he organised many exhibitions and participated in more than two hundred lectures both in Portugal and abroad.
