Synopsis

This work aims to honor Prof. Doctor Nair de Nazaré Castro Soares, Emerita Professor of the University of Coimbra, in recognition for her brilliant academic career and outstanding achievements in the research and teaching throughout the years. Many generations of students and researchers have benefited, in the country and abroad, from her long and profitable activity at the service of university and science. This work results from the contributions of those disciples, colleagues and friends, gathering studies that cover the main areas of knowledge in which she excelled: Greco-Roman Literature and Culture, Classical Tradition in the Middle Ages, studies on Renaissance Humanism, and Classical Heritage in Modern and Contemporary World.

Author Biographies

António Rebelo, University of Coimbra, Faculty of Humanities

António Manuel Ribeiro Rebelo is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Coimbra, where he has taught since 1988. He is a member of the Centre for Classical and Humanistic Studies, Faculty of Humanities of the University of Coimbra. He has developed his research in the field of classical languages and literatures, and particularly in the area of medieval Latin philology. He is a member of several national and international academic and scientific societies.

Margarida Miranda, University of Coimbra, Centre for Classical and Humanistic Studies

Maria Margarida Lopes de Miranda is a member of the Centre for Classical and Humanistic Studies and Associate Prof. of the University of Coimbra, where she did her PhD and teaches in the area of Latin Language and Classical Studies. Her main research areas are the neolatine sources of Renaissance Humanism, namely the cultural and pedagogical action of the Jesuits and their cultural, literary, artistic and philosophical production.
